RightFax + EPIC = seamless integration

September 2, 2016 By Fax Girl Leave a Comment

EPIC and RightFaxProtecting patient information is not only important to your patients, but required by tough HIPAA, HITECH and Meaningful Use regulations.

When you integrate RightFax and EPIC your information travels a secure, compliant and fast route from point A to point B with an audit trail you can count on.

Healthcare professionals are supposed to spend time with their patients, not standing at a fax machine. With RightFax and EPIC, scheduling, test results, orders and records all can be faxed and processes streamlined.

OpenText RightFax, the market-leading network fax software has a long-standing history of being the fax server of choice for a variety of healthcare information systems (HIS). These systems allow healthcare professionals to share PHI–both electronic and paperbased records. For existing paper-based records yet to be digitized, RightFax supports faxing from Multi-Function Printers (MFPs). For electronic records, many organizations choose to setup faxing directly from their EMR or EHR–eliminating the need to print records while keeping a complete audit trail of sent information. The types of faxing that might be done from within EMR/EHR ` systems include:

Share PHI for patient care coordination
Health Information Management faxing, such as legal medical records
Faxing prescriptions
Faxing referral or thank you letters to physicians
Faxing result notifications
Transcriptions, including letters

EPIC and RightFax Integration

All you need is a properly configured RightFax server and to setup your EMR/EHR for faxing. Several market leading EMR/EHR systems already know how to use RightFax to send faxes. RightFax can also be configured to securely route received faxes containing PHI to specific departments/individuals in digital form, eliminating the need for paper and protecting PHI better than traditional fax machines. If faxed documents are showing up at a fax machine in a public area–a busy nursing station for example–they are vulnerable to being seen or even stolen by unintended recipients. Patient information is protected by law, and strict regulations like HIPAA and HITECH govern how healthcare institutions must handle and store them. Failure to produce a requested document can result in crippling fines and a loss of patient confidence.

OpenText RightFax can help address the challenge of delivering medical records and other documents by providing the tools to electronically send and receive documents from the desktop, and by automating delivery of medical records and documents from a variety of clinical and back-office applications, intuitively organizing them for quick retrieval and archiving. This provides healthcare organizations with the flexibility to securely distribute virtually any document from any application, using a centralized fax and document delivery solution.

Deliver and manage medical records, PHI and secure patient content by integratingRightFax with your EMR/HER. RightFax has existing integrations with a number of leading providers. These integrations deliver the flexibility to securely share PHI to provide the highest level of patient care.

Epic now recommends that the integration between RightFax and Epic is to use the RightFax Integration Module.
